Thanks to an incredible offer from the Barro’s Pizza Family and a wonderful response from their loyal customers, more than $162,000 was raised in one day – Tuesday, Dec. 3 – to help St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance fight hunger in Arizona.

Brothers Bruce, Ken and Mike Barro donated all their day’s proceeds from the 35 Barro’s locations and raised a grand total of $162,758.95 – with every penny going to fight hunger in Arizona. St. Mary’s can distribute seven meals into the community with each donated dollar, so the Barro’s day of giving will result in the equivalent of 1,139,312 meals are headed to the hungry of Arizona.

“This cause is something near and dear to our family’s hearts. We have been thrilled to see the community help us make each year more and more successful and we are grateful to them for helping us raise almost $400,000 in the past three years alone. We can’t wait to break another record for meals raised next year,” said Mike Barro, co-owner of Barro’s Pizza.

That total is the most in the three-year history of this “Giving Tuesday” event. More than $400,000 has been raised for St. Mary’s in three years, providing more than 2.8 million meals!

“St. Mary’s was overwhelmed when the Barro family told us what they were planning to do in 2012 and every year this event never ceases to amaze us,” Food Bank President and CEO Beverly Damore said. “The ‘Holiday Hunger Fight’ has become an incredible day, one friends of the Food Bank and fans of great food look forward to all year. The Barros are true heroes in the battle against hunger in Arizona.”
